Hankook Renews FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation

16.10.26
  • Hankook retains the top rating in the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme until July 2028
  • Life cycle assessment of Hankook's Formula E tyres, from raw materials through manufacturing to transport, underpins the Three-Star result
  • The Programme gives motor sport and mobility organisations a clear framework to measure and reduce their environmental impact

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, announces that Hankook Tire & Technology (Hankook), a leading global tyre company, has retained its FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation, the top tier of the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme.

Hankook was first awarded Three-Star status in 2024, during its time as the Exclusive Tyre Supplier and Official Tyre Partner of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship from Season 9 to Season 12. This year's renewal was granted after a thorough third party audit, confirming that the FIA's Global Partner has maintained the standards that earned it the accreditation in the first place.

Central to the Three-Star rating is Hankook's use of life cycle assessment (LCA). By measuring the environmental impact of its Formula E tyres at every stage, from sourcing raw materials to manufacturing and transport, Hankook has built a system to track and manage its carbon footprint across production. It is this kind of evidence-based approach that the Programme's highest level is designed to recognise.

The FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme has helped close to 300 organisations across motor sport and mobility to measure, manage and improve their environmental performance. Assessments take in the full picture, from senior management commitment to energy use and logistics to waste management and carbon accounting, with Three Stars being the highest level achievable.

Willem Groenewald, FIA Secretary General for Automobile Mobility, Sustainability and Tourism, said: “Congratulations to Hankook on renewing its FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation. Earning our highest environmental standard once is an achievement; renewing it shows a commitment that runs deep. As a Global Partner of the FIA, Hankook shares our belief that motor sport can drive innovation from the track to the road, and this renewal is a fitting reflection of the partnership we are building together.”

Young Soo (James) Kim, Vice President, Motorsports Marketing Department, said: “We are pleased to renew the FIA 3-Star Environmental Accreditation. As a Global Partner of the FIA, Hankook shares a common vision for sustainable motorsport and future mobility, and we will continue working firmly with the FIA to support sustainable motorsport through innovation and responsible environmental management.”
