Frequently asked questions
Why should I choose the FIA as my next employer?
Working at the heart of global motor sport and at the forefront of the future of mobility is a unique experience. While the passion and adrenaline of world-class racing are major draws, they are just one part of the story. From your first day, you will be immersed in an international environment. With offices in Paris, Geneva, Valleiry and London, and a federation comprising 246 member organisations in 149 countries, the FIA is a global crossroads of expertise. You'll work alongside world-class engineers and mobility pioneers, in a high-performance culture where your work contributes directly to both the safety of roads worldwide and the excitement of the world's greatest racing championships.
Do I need to be a motor sport fan to work at the FIA?
It's natural that we attract many "petrolheads" and racing enthusiasts, and while we value that passion, we're first and foremost looking for professionals who are experts in their fields. Our Mobility pillar extends far beyond the track, focusing on road safety, environmental protection and urban mapping — so whether you follow Formula 1 closely or specialise in sustainable transport, we value fresh perspectives from outside the racing world. We look for people with the right skills and motivation to make motor sport and mobility safe, sustainable and accessible to all. And even if you aren't a fan when you join, the energy of our championships has a way of converting almost everyone.
What careers are possible at the FIA?
Governing global motor sport and advocating for billions of road users requires an incredible variety of skill sets. Our roles are broadly divided into our two main pillars, Sport and Mobility, supported by our corporate functions:
Sport: technical & safety, sporting regulations, championship management and logistics.
Mobility: public policy, road safety advocacy, environmental research and tourism.
Corporate & Support: rewarding careers in Legal, Marketing, Communications, Finance, HR, and our rapidly evolving Digital and IT departments.
Do I need a work permit for France or Switzerland?
The FIA has major administrative hubs in both Paris (France) and Geneva (Switzerland). For our French offices, we welcome applications from EU/EEA citizens; for non-EU candidates, we follow French labour regulations regarding work authorisations. For our Swiss offices, EU/EFTA citizens are generally granted permits upon being offered a role, while candidates outside these regions are subject to Swiss government quotas and we must demonstrate the specific expertise required cannot be found in the local market. We're a global federation that highly values cultural diversity, and we encourage all talented candidates to apply regardless of their origin.
Does the FIA offer internships?
Yes. We believe in nurturing the next generation of specialists in sport and mobility, and offer paid internship opportunities, typically lasting 9 to 12 months, across our various departments. These roles are advertised in our Current Opportunities section and provide real hands-on experience in a fast-paced international environment.
