FIA announced as Mobility Award Winners at the World Smart City Awards 2026
- The FIA received the Mobility Award at the World Smart City Awards 2026 for the development and implementation of the FIA Risk-Based Road Scores programme, a new digital road safety platform.
- Supported by EIT Urban Mobility and piloted in Rome in 2025, Roadscor creates digital twins of real intersections and uses simulations to prevent crashes before they happen.
- Presented during the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, the Mobility Award recognises projects providing road users with innovative urban transport solutions.

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has won the Mobility Award at the World Smart City Awards in Barcelona for the development and implementation of the FIA Risk-Based Road Scores programme.
Supported in its initial phase by EIT Urban Mobility, Roadscor uses simulations to identify potential traffic conflicts at real-life intersections and prevent crashes before they happen.
Unlike traditional methods, which rely on the review of historic crash records, Roadscor uses a variety of data sources to provide a more complete picture of road risk in a digital testing ground.
By combining traffic patterns, road characteristics and movement analysis, Roadscor can rapidly simulate thousands of interactions and potential conflicts, including near misses that would have traditionally gone unseen.
The award follows the successful deployment of Roadscor in Rome last year, where the FIA and EIT Urban Mobility worked alongside FIA Member Club the Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI) and Roma Capitale to create a digital twin of one of the city’s busiest intersections.
In Rome, Roadscor demonstrated it was able to provide an accurate assessment of road safety compared with traditional methods in a faster time and found that redesigning the intersection could reduce collisions by up to 70%.
Willem Groenewald, FIA Secretary General for Automobile Mobility, Sustainability and Tourism said: “Roadscor is transforming the way we measure risk and reduce it, shifting our focus away from reacting to crashes to preventing them altogether.
With this global recognition, I hope we can introduce this potentially lifesaving technology to cities worldwide and start protecting road users at scale.”
Robbert Lohmann, CEO & Founder of Roadscor said: “We are honoured to receive this award together with the partners we work with on a daily basis. This is a real validation of our work to reduce crashes and save lives.
The results we achieved in Rome show how predictive technology can help authorities make roads safer, and we look forward to supporting more cities in creating smarter urban environments for all road users.”
