FIA Motorsport in a Box Expands Grassroots Participation in Seychelles
The Seychelles Karting Association (SKA) has successfully launched two new grassroots motorsport disciplines — Autocourse, an Autokhana-style event for cars and SUVs, and Kart Slalom — following the implementation of the FIA Motorsport in a Box toolkit. This initiative reflects the FIA’s broader commitment to making motorsport more accessible, inclusive, and affordable to the greatest number of people.

Delivered to the ASN on 13 June 2025, the toolkit included FIA-standard flags, bibs for officials, stopwatches, notebooks, trophies, and other essential resources. Just two weeks later, over the weekend of 28–30 June, SKA used the equipment to stage inaugural events at Champions Park Raceway, demonstrating the toolkit’s potential to support activities beyond the confines of the permanent karting circuit, including in non-traditional venues such as car parks or open spaces across Mahé and Praslin Islands.
These events represent a significant step forward in SKA’s strategy to make motorsport more accessible, inclusive, and cost-effective. The Autocourse attracted nine participants in a low-barrier, engaging format, while the Kart Slalom tested the skills of 11 experienced drivers in a technical, precision-based competition that many found even more demanding than traditional circuit racing.
In addition to expanding sporting opportunities, the initiative provided hands-on training for local officials. The FIA toolkit supported clear role identification, accurate timekeeping, and standardised event procedures, contributing to stronger operational capacity. Organisers also identified areas for improvement, including the need for additional marshals at crossover points and the introduction of real-time penalty reporting systems.
Looking ahead, SKA plans to:
- Expand grassroots activities to include new formats such as navigational rallies and hillclimbs
- Integrate Autokhana and Kart Slalom into the national motorsport calendar, with competitive series targeted for 2026
- Use Kart Slalom to support driver development pathways, preparing participants for international competitions such as the FIA Motorsport Games
Throughout 2025, both disciplines will continue to be deployed as open, promotional events to raise awareness and increase participation across Seychelles.
“The FIA Motorsport in a Box is a game-changer for grassroots motorsport,” said Liza Rene-Crosgow, President of SKA. “It’s practical, cost-effective, and impactful — and we highly recommend it to any ASN looking to grow motorsport at the community level.”
