Having topped the Qualifying Ranking after a consistently impressive weekend, the three-time European Champion converted that pace into victory despite relentless pressure from Kristoffersson Motorsport duo Ole Christian Veiby and Johan Kristoffersson. Veiby finished second to complete another double podium for KMS, while Kristoffersson recovered brilliantly from Saturday's costly black flag to salvage third.

Bakkerud's route to victory was built on consistency from the moment Sunday's action began. Having climbed to the top of the intermediate standings after Qualifying 3 with another heat victory ahead of Patrick O'Donovan and Juha Rytkönen, the Norwegian backed it up in Qualifying 4 by finishing second only to Kristoffersson in one of the day's fastest races. That performance secured him the highest Qualifying Ranking heading into the knockout stages and put him in the perfect position to challenge for his second victory of the campaign, following his triumph in Hungary.

From there, Bakkerud never looked back. He comfortably won Quarter-Final 1 before producing another excellent drive in Semi-Final 1, where a superb launch immediately put him in control. Although Ollie O'Donovan briefly split the leading pack with another outstanding getaway on home soil, Bakkerud remained untroubled throughout, while a fierce battle behind between Patrick O'Donovan and Juha Rytkönen ultimately denied both Irish drivers a place in the Final.

The Final itself delivered another spectacular chapter in what is becoming one of the closest Euro RX1 title fights in recent years. Bakkerud launched perfectly from pole position and immediately established himself at the front, while contact between Kristoffersson and Rytkönen at Turn Two briefly unsettled the chasing pack. Ole Christian Veiby took advantage to move into second before opting for an early joker strategy, temporarily dropping down the order.

Kristoffersson soon fought his way back into second place and immediately began closing on the rear bumper of Bakkerud's Ford Fiesta, reducing the gap lap after lap as the pair prepared for the decisive joker sequence. However, when the reigning champion eventually jokered on lap five, he rejoined the circuit alongside his Kristoffersson Motorsport team-mate. The pair went door-to-door, but the hard-fought battle ultimately cost both drivers valuable time. Kristoffersson was forced wide, allowing Bakkerud to build the margin he needed before taking his joker on the final lap and sealing a very well-deserved second victory of the season.

Veiby once again demonstrated why he has become one of the championship's most consistent performers. Having topped the overnight standings on Saturday following Kristoffersson's Qualifying 2 exclusion, the Norwegian remained firmly in contention throughout Sunday. He progressed confidently through Qualifying before dominating Semi-Final 2, where the Kristoffersson Motorsport pairing immediately broke clear of the field to finish more than nine seconds ahead of Nils Volland.

Although his early joker strategy briefly appeared to compromise his chances in the Final, Veiby fought back strongly and ultimately benefitted from Kristoffersson's battle after the joker merge to reclaim second place, securing another valuable podium finish to strengthen his championship challenge.

For Kristoffersson, meanwhile, the weekend became another story of resilience. After Saturday's black flag dropped him to 13th in the overnight standings despite displaying race-winning pace, the eight-time World Champion responded emphatically on Sunday. Two Qualifying heat victories lifted him back into contention before he comfortably won Quarter-Final 4 and finished second behind Veiby in Semi-Final 2 to secure his place on the front rows of the Final.

The Swede looked capable of challenging Bakkerud for victory until the decisive joker sequence, where his side-by-side battle with Veiby ultimately denied him the opportunity to attack the race leader. Nevertheless, third place represented an impressive recovery from Saturday's disappointment and ensured he limited the damage in the championship standings.

We've tested all weekend long with different set ups, and I feel like it finally paid off - to be able to stand here and say that I'm the winner of Euro RX of Ireland is mind blowing to me! I just can't thank the team and everyone involved enough. I've loved racing here, it's such a great place - and we've tried our best to put on a great show.”

Ole Christian Veiby, Kristoffersson Motorsport, said: “It's been an interesting day here at Mondello Park. We had some fun there in the Semi-Final and Johan had a great race - it was a nice fight. We raced a little bit against each other in the Final as well, and it was perhaps not our smartest decision. I felt like I had it in me to fight with Andreas in the Final, so I have to admit I'm a little bit disappointed with the outcome. We're also struggling a lot with the understeer at the moment, so that's something that we're going to have to look at before the next round in France."

Johan Kristoffersson, Kristoffersson Motorsport, said: “We've definitely put up a good fight this weekend. I put myself in a tricky position with the black flag yesterday, but we still managed to take a lot of points home this weekend - obviously the racing between us wasn't ideal, as we pretty much handed Andreas the win, but the championship looks pretty interesting now. We have also improved our starts. so we're definitely happy with that too. We're now very much looking forward to Lohéac - it's a similar layout to here ”

With Bakkerud returning to the top step of the podium, Veiby securing another important haul of championship points and Kristoffersson recovering strongly after Saturday's setback, the Euro RX1 title battle has tightened once again heading into the final phase of the season. Mondello Park's long-awaited return to the FIA European Rallycross Championship delivered exactly the spectacle fans had hoped for, ensuring Ireland's place back on the calendar was marked by an unforgettable weekend of racing.
