Closing Gaps in U.S. Automotive Safety Policy: Safety Policy that Keeps Pace with Technology [SEMA, USA]

08.03.26

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are becoming standard on autos, reshaping vehicle safety. Policy, testing standards, and aftermarket guidance have not kept pace, creating uncertainty for owners, regulators, OEMs, and aftermarket businesses about how modifications affect safety systems. SEMA’s ADAS Research initiative addresses this gap through independent, data-driven research on how real-world modifications interact with ADAS. It connects engineering, industry, and policy to support aftermarket/mobility innovation, promote safe outcomes, and inform scalable global frameworks.
