British drivers Noah Baglin and Will Green claimed European Champion glory today (Sunday 2 August), with both Kart Republic drivers delivering a final flourish to cap off exemplary campaigns across the four rounds of the championship. The 2026 Mondokart.com FIA Karting European Championship reached its climax at the Åsum Ring in Kristianstad, wrapping up a European season that has delivered drama, nail biting finals and unmissable racing from some of motor sport’s brightest future stars.

In OK, Baglin all but sealed the title during this morning's Super Heats before comfortably finishing the final in second position to overcome a final obstacle on his path to adding a European crown to his World Champion status. William Calleja took his first win of the season in an eventful final which also saw Dean Hoogendoorn’s first FIA Karting podium of the year.

In Junior, Will Green sealed the Junior championship during this morning’s Super Heats as Miron Lorente only managed a fourteenth-place finish after starting on pole. Green held his nerve to seize the championship and bank the points he needed on the final day. The young Briton joins a prestigious list of former European Junior champions, including Lando Norris, George Russell and Sebastian Vettel.

An action-packed junior final ended with Emerson MacAndrew-Uren claiming his first FIA Karting race win and a last-minute track battle for third position in the championship standings.

In Academy Senior, three drivers arrived at the final race in title contention, but Albie Lapper's 27-point cushion in the standings proved insurmountable for closest challenger Alexis Genolet, who crossed the line as the winner but was later disqualified for being underweight. Lapper therefore clinched the Academy Trophy title with a final win rounding off a trio of British champions and winners today.

Super Heats

The first Super Heat of the day delivered blockbuster entertainment as Noah Baglin lined up on the front row of the grid and his only remaining championship rival, Zac Drummond, had to settle for a 22nd place start following his disastrous day over the heats yesterday. As the lights went out Baglin knew he only needed to score nine championship points more than Drummond in his Super Heat to seal the deal and again write his name in the FIA Karting history books.

As we got racing, polesitter Calleja got out of the blocks well as Baglin behind him dropped to fourth position in the opening lap with Ilie Tristan Crisan taking over to challenge Calleja.

Zac Drummond however wasn’t prepared to let the title slip away and he sent his kart up the order to quickly make up an astounding thirteen places in the opening four laps and entered the top ten. As soon as Drummond’s charge began, Baglin seemingly sensed the mounting pressure behind and recovered his second position and reduced the gap to Calleja.

Drummond’s campaign showed little signs of stopping by the midpoint as he climbed into seventh and piled pressure onto Benjamin Manach for a vital sixth position that could take the title fight to the afternoon final race.

In the closing laps, Manach sustained the pressure heaped on by Drummond as Baglin protected his position to cross the line in second position which handed Baglin the provisional title. However, a post-race penalty handed to Manach promoted Drummond to sixth position leaving Baglin to require a single point to be certain of the title glory.

In the other Super Heat, Henry Domain maintained his place at the front of the pack to secure his position alongside Calleja for the final race. Behind him, Dean Hoogendoorn made up two places to cross the line in second place and claim fifth position in the final race.

Elsewhere, Joe Turney retired from his super heat ending any hope of getting into the final and home hope Oliver Kinnmark suffered a mechanical fault which pushed him into a 28th position start at his home race.

Final

Baglin would start the final race almost certain to be the reigning World and European Champion in a matter of moments. An opening lap coming together quickly cost him three places with Hoogendoorn up into second position and Calleja pulling ahead at the front. Baglin however swiftly recovered his track position over Hoogendoorn and into second place as the Brit began his race looking comfortable

Zac Drummond began a mighty climb through the order, reminiscent of his Super Heat charge, as he gained 16 spots in just five laps before meeting the race frontrunners trailed by Lev Krutoholov and fellow Brit Zac Green. Drummond needed a win, a fastest lap and for Baglin to score 0 points to tie the championship and he wasn’t prepared to miss the opportunity.

For a few moments, the impossible seemed like an outside chance as the Scottish driver continued to gain place after place but disaster struck Drummond again in lap 11 as his race abruptly ended and he was forced to retire, confirming Noah Baglin as European Champion.

Hoogendoorn sat in third position with a 1.3 second advantage over Ilie Tristan Crisan who held the fourth position he qualified in following this morning’s Super Heats. The Dutch driver ended his European campaign strongly with a performance and eventual third place finish reminiscent of his junior charge last year.

As the race neared its conclusion, William Calleja began to cruise to the chequered flag with a growing gap to Baglin behind. His impressive run through the qualifying phase and final race promoted him into fourth place in the championship standings at the expense of Niklas Schaufler who had struggled this weekend.

Schaufler did however deliver one final masterful drive to end his European campaign as he gained 22 positions, but his 13th place finish was ultimately not enough to cement his fourth place in the championship.

Finally, Valerio Viapiana nearly replicated his impressive run through the field from the previous round as he gained 20 places to cross the line in 11th. Viapiana is showing all the signs of a promising driver despite his qualifying misfortunes.

“It was a great race. I knew I just needed to get a couple of points, so I wasn’t really focusing on that I was just focusing on getting a good result for the team and when I did it was amazing. The team has done a great job.”

Super Heats

Miron Lorente’s pole position was one of the last advantages he had to keep the championship door open as Will Green lined up on the fourth row of the starting grid. If Will Green were to outscore Miron Lorente by just a single point, the championship would be his.

In the opening laps of the crucial super heat, Miron Lorente’s near perfect weekend stalled as he slipped down the order and almost out of the top ten with Will Green sweeping past his only remaining rival. As the remaining laps ticked down, Miron Lorente needed to muster one final push to keep a pathway open to challenge Green in the Final.

In the closing stages of the race, Miron Lorente banked fastest laps of the race and was hot on the tail of Many Nuvolini in seventh place and preventing his chance for a final race showdown with Green who was sitting in fifth position.

At the front end of the heat, Leon Chelidze claimed the leading position of the heat with a tense battle unfolding behind him for the remaining top places. Green managed to push up into fourth and place one hand on the trophy but as Miron Lorente kept close behind him the tale of the championship was not yet over.

Antoine Sylva Venant and Many Nuvolini were the only two drivers between Miron Lorente and Green in the final laps and despite his best efforts in the closing seconds of the super heat Miron Lorente couldn’t catch Will Green who crossed the line in fourth position to seal his first FIA Karting title as the 2026 Junior European Champion.

In the other Super Heat, Lucas Palacio had the better start to overtake Ratajski for the lead whilst Girardello who has had a blisteringly quick weekend and a favourite for the final pole position lost six places in the opening laps before recovering to fourth.

Palacio withheld the pressure from behind to take the Super Heat win but Ratajski’s dominant performance over qualifying meant his third-place finish was enough to secure him pole position for the final race this afternoon. Elsewhere, Priam Bruno and Lorenzo Di Pietrantonio were the other big gainers to secure 4th and 17th positions as the lights went out this afternoon.

Final

Stan Ratajski lined up alongside Emerson MacAndrew-Uren on the front row as we got racing this afternoon as a first lap pile up cost six drivers their race chance including Oskari Walle and Albert Tamm.

A poor start from Ratajski cost him his lead as MacAndrew-Uren took over at the front and Miron Lorente continued his strong form this weekend to push into the top four, despite his title hopes having been dashed just a few hours before. An early race tussle between Palacio and Miron Lorente unfolded with a waiting train of karts behind waiting to pounce upon any space that emerges.

By lap 13 Miron Lorente successfully made the move on Palacio which also brought into play Zack Zhaoqi, Venant and Girardello for the final podium places to the entertainment of the assembled Swedish crowd. In the fight for third place, it was Venant who ultimately emerged victorious in the early stages after an extraordinary gain of 13 places.

Venant went on to defend his position for just a single lap as Miron Lorente fought back to claim the position back before contact cost Venant’s side pod knocking him out of the race for a technical infringement.

Many Nuvolini, defending his third-place position in the championship, was tangled in a lap 20 incident hampering his attempt to hold onto the position which temporarily promoted Girardello to the bronze medal position. Further drama would then unfold as Venant, who had not yet retired following his technical infringement, made contact with Gioele Girardello, denying him the opportunity to leapfrog Nuvolini in the standings.

As the race reached its conclusion, MacAndrew-Uren, who was virtually unchallenged throughout the final, won by over 3 seconds over Leon Chelidze who both claimed their first FIA Karting podiums.

However, behind them both, the unrelenting track battles opened up a gap of over 15 seconds to third placed Lucas Palacio who had held on to his position against an increasingly hungry Miron Lorente who crossed the line side by side in a near photo finish with Palacio narrowly ahead.

However, as both Miron Lorente and Palacio subsequently received 5-second penalties, it was Zack Zhu Zhaoqi who was promoted to the podium with Julian Frasnelli behind in fourth who delivered the drive of the day to climb 29 places after only just qualifying for the final in 33rd position.

Freshly crowned Junior European Champion Will Green made up a single place to cross the line in 12th as the Kart Republic driver comfortably held his own to deliver a measured and relaxed final drive of the season.

Academy Senior

The three remaining hopefuls for the Academy Senior title: Albie Lapper, Alexis Genolet and Filip Planeta lined up on the grid for the final in third, second and fifth position respectively, leaving 25 laps to decide the second ever winner of the Academy Trophy Senior following its introduction last year.

Michal Zajac had secured pole position yesterday following his faultless run of heats with Genolet alongside him hoping to gain an early track advantage and overturn the 27-point deficit to Lapper.

As the lights went out, Zajac came under quick pressure from both Genolet and Lapper who were racing for the title glory ahead of them. Zajac ultimately gave way to the Trophy contenders as Genolet moved into the lead with Lapper and Planeta behind, navigating each corner of the track to search for any advantage or gap through to the front.

In lap four Zajac and Planeta collided, ending their races and their hopes of winning the 2026 Trophy, making way for a two-way battle to the chequered flag of Genolet and Lapper who led the race with growing space to the trailing pack. Genolet in the lead was doing all he possibly could knowing Lapper’s points advantage gave him breathing space without the need for a race win to secure the title.

Further down the order Liam Carr had climbed several places into the top three whilst Marcella Assumpçao from Brazil was delivering a standout performance to gain 14 places by mid-race, her best record of the season, to challenge for the top ten positions. The Brazilian dropped back in the closing stages to end the race with a net gain of seven places.

As the race progressed, Lapper began to close in to within half a second of Genolet, desperate for the race win to complete his Academy Trophy season and secure his first victory of the season. Genolet resisted the pressure and found late pace to extend his gap with a determined drive, banking on a misstep from Lapper behind him which didn’t materialise.

Genolet took the chequered flag with Lapper in second who had done enough to claim the 2026 Academy Trophy Senior title and add his name as the second winner of the competition after Yuzuki Sato won the title last year.

The small consolation of a race win was moments later taken from Alexis Genolet who was disqualified for being underweight in post-race scrutineering, handing Lapper the eventual win to cap off a golden day for the British driver. However, despite his disqualification, Genolet retains his runner-up position in the final Academy Senior standings.

As a result of his victory, Albie Lapper also wins from OTK a free drive in the FIA Karting World Cup (ON-N) in Viterbo later this year as part of an OTK team.
