FIA Vice Presidents for Sport – the key connection to our global Members

22.06.26

As the global governing body for motor sport, the FIA comprises a diverse and dedicated base of Member Clubs – 149 of them dedicated to the sport. To ensure that the needs of members at a local level are represented on the world stage, seven Vice-Presidents for Sport are elected to the World Motor Sport Council, each playing a vital role in the FIA’s governance

As a Member-driven organisation, the FIA is fundamentally built upon global cooperation and collaboration, and with motor sport governance at the heart of the FIA Conference taking place in Macau this week, the meeting of the seven FIA Vice-Presidents for Sport is a crucial moment of discussion and alignment.

There are seven FIA Vice-Presidents for Sport – they are each nominated by clubs in their respective regions during the presidential elections, and once elected each has a seat on the World Motor Sport Council – the highest authority in motor sport governance.

The regions represented are Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe (which has two Vice-Presidents for Sport), Middle East and North Africa, North America and South America. This structure is designed to ensure that all members have representation at the highest level of the organisation.

Chaired by H.E. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, this core group meets four times a year ahead of each World Motor Sport Council. Topics for discussion range from regulatory matters affecting the FIA’s portfolio of six elite World Championships to analysis of the grassroots funding programmes that the FIA provides as vital growth accelerators at the grassroots level.

Each regional Vice-President provides a report on the motor sport activities in their region, highlighting key learning and success stories that can be transferred across regional boundaries.

The FIA President may use this meeting to set specific missions for the Vice-Presidents for Sport – ranging from governance and regulatory matters to dealing with national governments and institutions. The fundamental goal of the group is to take actions that deliver on the President’s mandate to double global participation, driving innovation and making motor sport safer and more accessible for all.
