FIA Launches Global Drone Training Platform, Provriding Pioneering New Opportunities for Member Clubs

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motorsport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has partnered with pioneering drone training and integration specialists, Aerofor, to launch an innovative new Drone Training Services Kit, a ready-to-use digital platform that will allow FIA Member Clubs around the world to offer certified drone training.
As drones become an increasingly visible part of everyday life, from infrastructure inspection to emergency response, agricultural purposes to media production, the initiative positions the FIA and its Members at the forefront of this fast-growing sector.
Designed to be simple, flexible, and quick to roll out, the platform gives Members Clubs instant access to a fully developed training system with no upfront cost. This means they can start offering certified courses almost immediately, creating new revenue streams while building skills and opportunities within their local communities.
Crucially, Members will retain full ownership of their customers, allowing them to grow long-term relationships and expand into wider drone-related services: from consultancy and operations to partnerships with public authorities.
The programme builds on a successful pilot led by the Automòbil Club d'Andorra (ACA) – winner of the 2025 FIA Innovation Challenge for this project – demonstrating how Members can turn drone training into a sustainable and scalable activity. This year, the Federation has already delivered successful training in Nepal, bringing together delegates from the Nepal Automobiles’ Association, Automobile Association of Singapore, Automobile Association of Bangladesh and Automobile Association of Ceylon for the APAC region’s Drone Accreditation training programme.
Delegates gathered on the outskirts of Kathmandu for four days of intensive training led by Nicolas Brieger and FIA Club Ambassador David Fraissinet, who originally deployed the business model as General Manager of ACA and is now helping bring the programme to Clubs worldwide.
Willem Groenewald, FIA Secretary General for Automotive Mobility, Sustainability & Tourism, said: “By providing this training, the FIA is helping our Members to not only diversify their services, but also to play an active role in shaping the future of mobility in their regions, on the ground and in the air!
“At the same time, we continue to ensure this growth is underpinned by the highest standards of safety, responsibility and sustainability. By giving Clubs the right tools and support, we’re helping them take confident steps into this space and deliver real value for their communities.”
Eduard Ruíz-Olivares, Aerofor CEO, said: "At Aerofor, we have always believed that drone training should be accessible, credible, and locally rooted. The FIA’s global network of Member Clubs is the perfect vehicle to make that a reality at scale.
“With this partnership, clubs can launch a fully certified programme from day one, without the complexity of building it from scratch and their members gain a qualification pathway that is recognised internationally. We are proud to be part of this initiative and look forward to growing it together."
For the FIA, the partnership reflects a broader vision: supporting its global network to adapt to changing mobility trends while promoting safety, sustainability, and innovation. The initiative also strengthens links with the FIA University, helping to equip Member Clubs with the knowledge and tools needed to thrive in a digital, technology-driven landscape.
