After the Covid-19 Pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 FIA European Historic Sporting Rally Championship, the series returns in 2021 with nine events in seven European countries. Seven of the events featured on the 2019 calendar, with one returning to the championship after an absence of five years, the Sanremo Rally Storico, and the Rallye International du Valais making its EHRC debut.

On the final day of the Alpine Challenge in Switzerland, the no7 Opel Ascona 2000 of Belgian crew Michel Decremer and Patrick Lienne continued to lead the way, finishing the event at the head of the classification with 860 net penalty points and lifting the 2020 FIA Trophy for Historic Regularity Rallies.

The first day of the final of the 2020 FIA Trophy for Historic Regularity Rallies, the Alpine Challenge, saw the no7 1979 Open Ascona 2000 of Michel Decremer and Patrick Lienne finish the first five regularity stages with a total penalty of 31.1, with the no3 1965 Morris Mini Cooper S of compatriots Jean-Jacques Martens and Aswin Pyck in second place with 39.9.
