Advancing Mobility and Motor Sport in Asia Pacific: 2025 FIA Asia Pacific Congress in Chiang Mai

12.10.25

The 2025 FIA Asia Pacific Congress, hosted by the Royal Automobile Association of Thailand (RAAT) in Chiang Mai, brought together 90 Delegates from 31Member Clubs for three days of collaboration, learning and knowledge exchange across Mobility and Motor Sport.

Day 1 – Innovation, Safety and Capacity Building

The opening session set the tone with inspiring messages from the FIA leadership and RAAT, reaffirming our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and safety across the region.

Delegates heard about RAAT’s dynamic role in mobility and sport in Thailand – from advancing road safety through the AIP Foundation to supporting a vibrant motor sport scene.

FIA experts then explored how Clubs can strengthen their capacity through knowledge, innovation, and inclusion, driving real impact across the FIA community. During the session, the FIA launched its Driver Safety Index (DSI), the new global benchmark for driver risk.

Powered by Greater Than’s AI technology, the FIA DSI makes driver risk measurable, comparable, and actionable, provides a universal scoring system across industries, geographies, and vehicle types, and supports organisations worldwide in improving road safety and advancing ESG goals.

Day 2 – Leadership, Collaboration, and Regional Priorities

Day 2 focused on advancing mobility and motor sport initiatives across the Asia-Pacific region.

The FIA Region II Plenary paid tribute to outgoing Regional President Greig Craft, recognising his leadership in strengthening collaboration and empowering Member Clubs across Asia-Pacific to improve road safety. The session also elected a new Executive Committee and Augustus ‘Joe’ Ferreria as the new FIA Region II President. Delegates also heard from the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) and the FIA Foundation, and their work to promote safer, more sustainable and affordable mobility.

The sessions allowed Delegates to explore regional road safety priorities and grassroots motor sport solutions such as the FIA Affordable Cross Car project, while workshops on AI for Club operations, strategic sport event planning, and sustainability offered Clubs hands-on tools and actionable knowledge. The APAC Club Correspondents’ Meeting further strengthened collaboration across Motor Sport and Mobility Delegates from the region.

Day 3 – Recognition and Networking

The final day began with the APAC Sport Club Session, where Delegates discussed regional priorities and shared updates.

The FIA Innovation Challenge Prize-Giving celebrated the three 2025 Region II Champions: RACQ (Australia), WIAA (India), and JAF (Japan).

The Congress closed with remarks from the new FIA Region II President Augustus ‘Joe’ Ferreria and a Q&A session with FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, offering delegates an opportunity for open dialogue on the next developments for the region.

The day concluded with a karting activity, giving Motor Sport and Mobility Delegates a chance to celebrate and connect through the thrill of motor sport.
