Goodyear FIA ETRC Slovakia Ring day two round-up: Kiss to the four with sensational showing

07.06.26

Norbert Kiss took four wins out of four to underline his status as a Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship legend with a sensational weekend in Slovakia.

Twice on pole and twice a reverse-grid race winner after a series of sublime overtaking moves at the Slovakia Ring, Kiss has now won seven times out of a possible eight in 2026 and tops the provisional Goodyear FIA ETRC standings by 36 points.

It was also a winning weekend for Mark Taylor in the Goodyear FIA ETRC Chrome category as the defending champion got his season back on track with three victories.

The Briton came within 0.974s of claiming his maiden outright victory in Race 4 but couldn’t fend off MAN-powered Hungarian hero Kiss, who won twice on Saturday – including Race 2 by 0.010s ahead of René Reinert – and twice today (Sunday).

Taylor now leads the Chrome ranking by three points having arrived in Slovakia in fifth position following a troubled Misano season opener last month.

Sascha Lenz followed up third place in Race 1 behind Jochen Hahn by finishing second in Race 3. He also won the Goodyear Wingfoot Award after he topped the fan vote ahead of Reinert and Taylor. Antonio Albacete completed the Race 3 podium behind Kiss and Lenz, while Steffi Halm joined Kiss and Taylor on the Race 4 podium. Halm finished third behind Kiss and Reinert in Race 2.

Bradley Smith was the Chrome winner in Race 3 ahead of Luke Garrett and John Newell before Garrett and Newell finished second and third to Taylor in Race 4. Taylor, Newell and Steffen Faas filled the Race 1 Chrome podium with Taylor beating Faas and Newell in Race 2.

Race 1, Race 2, Race 3 and Race 4 overall winner Norbert Kiss said: “It was a good start in Race 1 and I was in front and clear for the braking zone at the first turn, so it was nice, I didn’t have to fight much at the start. I did no mistakes, so it was good and it was nice to win. Race 2 was very exciting, René [Reinert] was doing a really good job defending so it was really hard to get into position, for a few laps it was just not working. In the last lap I kind of already gave it up, then I catch up to him and was very close and could make him defend into the last turn in a very unusual manner, which caused him to miss the apex a bit. I put my nose in and tried to have a good exit as much as possible. Then on the outside of course he was coming back a little bit, it was very close, the closest finish in truck racing I think. Race 3 was a good race and a good start both times, after the red flag I was clean in front. Sascha [Lenz] and Jochen [Hahn] was fighting a bit and Jochen DNFd, which is never the way you want to win or increase your lead in the championship. But it is what it is and after that I had a clean race and I could save the tyres a bit and watch out for the truck for the reverse-grid race. Overall I’m happy, it was a good victory and an important victory. Again, I made my move in Race 4. Mark [Taylor] started to defend and it was easier for him to make a mistake, he locked his brakes and went wide, then it was easy to overtake him. With two laps to go I was trying to do my best, everything was getting hot, and the lap times were not good. It was difficult but I was hoping, you never give up and I was trying to reach him and then on the last lap the opportunity was there and I made it work. Amazing weekend with four wins and I’m really happy to do it here in Slovakia, it’s like a home race with a lot of Hungarian fans. I’m really proud of the team, Révész Racing, because they did an amazing job again to prepare everything. Speed, reliability, everything is there.”

Race 1, Race 2 and Race 4 Chrome winner Mark Taylor said: “Race 1 was a good race and I kept my pace, things went well, and the truck was going fine. Race 2 completed a good turnaround. I tried to keep it clean, I had a little contact with Sascha [Lenz] but that’s it, it was nice and smooth and I kept my head down. Overall, it’s good, a good end to a great weekend. Luke [Garrett] left the door open for me [in Race 4], it gave me the opportunity to get in front and make a run for it and that’s what I did. I saw Norbi [Kiss] and Steffi [Halm] fighting and we were good until the last lap. I defended Norbi a little bit too early and had a slight lock-up. But all in all, I’m pleased. We started the weekend really down, we were slow, the slowest of the field. The team all got together and figured out what was wrong and pushed into a direction and it’s worked.”

Race 3 Chrome winner Bradley Smith: “It’s a nice turnaround for the team. I had a good start, and it was a really good race, I really enjoyed it but Steffi [Halm] wouldn’t let me breathe. I didn’t think I’d get out for qualifying so to win is special. It’s a good boost [for the season], the team has worked really hard to get us out on track. We’ve had all sorts of problems thrown at us but that’s racing and you take the rough with the smooth.”
