FIA European Drag Racing Championship Returns to Action at Tierp Arena

05.08.25

After a long break since the opening round at Santa Pod Raceway, the FIA European Drag Racing Championship resumes from August 7–10 with round two in Tierp, 120Km North of Stockholm (SWE). With just one race completed and three rounds remaining, all four championship battles remain wide open. Current leaders are Liam Jones (Top Fuel), Jonny Lagg (Top Methanol), Marck Harteveld (Pro Modified), and the duo of Jimmy Ålund and Robin Norén (Pro Stock). Following the rain-shortened eliminations at Santa Pod, the points standings are still extremely close, and the Tierp round could prove pivotal.

Top Fuel, everything yet to be decided
In Top Fuel, British returnee Liam Jones leads the standings after advancing to the final at Santa Pod. In Tierp his main challenger is Swedish driver Susanne Callin, who was defeated in the Santa-Pod semifinals by reigning FIA European Champion Jndia Erbacher. Callin is only 19 points behind her RF Motorsport teammate Jones, so a race win at Tierp can change everything adding tension to the weekend’s racing in the fastest category of the championship.

Top Methanol, a record field
Top Methanol sees a record nine-car field entered at Tierp, the largest the class has seen in years. Defending champion Jonny Lagg leads the standings after winning in the UK, but Tina Høst Nedregård is only four points behind following a strong runner-up finish. Belgium’s Sandro Bellio, multiple FIA champion and number one qualifier at Santa Pod, is aiming for redemption after losing to Lagg in the semifinals. Notably, Tierp will also welcome newcomers Isak Lagg, son of Jonny Lagg, and Hampus Staflund, while veterans Magnus Larsson and Jürgen Nagel return to competition for the first time this season.

Pro Modified, an action-packed field
Once again the largest and most international category, Pro Modified boasts 22 entries from eight nations. Dutchman Marck Harteveld leads the standings after qualifying number one and reaching the semifinals in the UK before rain ended the eliminations early. Fellow Dutchman David Vegter, last year’s runner-up, is just two points behind and impressed with his quick runs at Santa Pod. Mats Eriksson and Andy Robinson are tied for third, while Michel Tooren is fifth, just 24 points off the lead. Sweden will be well represented with no fewer than seven local drivers making their season debut at Tierp, promising fierce competition.

Pro Stock, a class full of surprises
Pro Stock features a strong 10-car lineup, including Finland’s Tommy Lundström and Richard Sundblom, as well as Sweden’s Christian Sagelv. Robin Norén was the surprise number one qualifier at Santa Pod and now shares the championship lead with Jimmy Ålund. Stefan Ernryd and Lasse Britsmar sit third and fourth respectively, ensuring an exciting battle in the factory hot rod class.

Schedule
Qualifying for the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals takes place on Friday, August 8 and Saturday, August 9. Eliminations begin on Sunday morning, August 10.
