The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for Motor Sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has today announced the selection of TotalEnergies as the single supplier of sustainable fuel for the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) for a three-year term beginning in 2026.

In 2022, the FIA committed to a low-carbon future for the WRC, becoming the first FIA-sanctioned world championship to adopt sustainable fuel. Today’s announcement builds on that commitment, ensuring the long-term supply of sustainable fuel in the championship from 2026 onwards.

TotalEnergies brings established expertise in the development and delivery of sustainable fuels with successful programmes in several FIA World and Regional Championships and will use this experience to deliver a next generation racing fuel to the WRC for the next three years.

The FIA awarded the rights as single supplier to TotalEnergies. It will supply Excellium Rally AS, a 100% Advanced Sustainable* fuel made from non-food biomass. The fuel complies with the newly created FIA Appendix J Article 266 dedicated to Energy Regulation for Competition Vehicles and meets the requirements of Appendix J Article 252, reducing CO₂ emissions by at least 65%**.

This new fuel will be mandated for use by all FIA priority competitors and will be available to non-priority competitors, resulting in a more sustainable championship without compromising on performance.

Emilia Abel, FIA Road Sport Director, said: “TotalEnergies presented a highly compelling proposal during the tender process that met all our targets across performance, sustainability, and reliability. With a proven track record in other FIA championships, they are well placed to support the WRC through its next chapter.

“Sustainability is central to the FIA’s vision for the future of motor sport, and the continued use of sustainable fuel in the WRC reinforces the championship’s position as a pioneer in sustainable innovation at the highest level of competition.”
