Mozambique Stages Milestone FIA Motorsport in a Box Event

The Automobile and Touring Club of Mozambique (ATCM) has successfully staged the country's first Auto Slalom event made possible using equipment from the FIA Motorsport In A Box programme.
Held on Sunday 14 June, the event marked a key milestone in the development of grassroots motor sport in Mozambique as over 20 drivers participated over the three-hour event. Jaime Leal, an accomplished cyclist and winner of the competition, expressed his enthusiasm to compete again in the near future. He described the event as an ideal opportunity not only to further develop his driving skills but also to become part of the growing motorsport community in Mozambique.
The Motorsport In A Box programme provides Member Clubs such as the ATCM with all the materials and equipment needed to stage small-scale, low-cost and accessible motor sport events in everyday locations such as supermarket car parks, directly contributing to the FIA President's goal to double motor sport participation globally.
Supported by JFS and car brand MG, the event brought entry-level motor sport to new communities and laid the foundations for a new generation of participants to begin their journey in the sport.
Building on the success of this inaugural event, the ATCM intends to launch the ATCM Car Slalom Championship 2026, offering manufacturers and dealerships across Mozambique a platform to engage with motor sport audiences while providing drivers at all levels a pathway into competitive motor sport.
Mozambique's debut event is the latest example of the Motorsport In A Box programme's growing reach across the African continent, as the FIA continues to support Member Clubs in establishing and growing participation in the sport around the world.
