FIA FR/F4/GT World Cups - Macau formats explained
The three FIA World Cups being contested during Macau Grand Prix week from 13-16 November follow similar formats but with a few key differences. Here’s a refresher.

Revised FIA GT World Cup qualifying format to spice up the show
A revised qualifying format is being trialled during this year’s FIA GT World Cup. In addition to the usual 30-minute qualifying session (Q1), there will be a second qualifying segment (Q2) for the fastest 10 drivers from Q1. Drivers will go out on track individually and get two qualifying laps during the new Q2 ‘Super Pole’ session, with each competitor permitted to use a new set of tyres from official supplier Pirelli. The remainder of the FIA GT World Cup programme – which is being contested by Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and Porsche – remains unchanged from 2024, with a 12-lap Qualification Race followed by the 16-lap Main Race to decide the winner of the eighth FIA GT World Cup.
Building up to the big one in FIA FR World Cup
FIA FR World Cup drivers get two practice sessions, two qualifying sessions and two races as they bid to land Macau Grand Prix glory. One 40-minute qualifying session takes place on Thursday followed by a further 40-minute session on Friday with the combined results setting the grid for Saturday’s Qualification Race. The results of the Qualification Race then form the grid for Sunday’s showpiece contest, the FIA FR World Cup, which counts as the 72nd Macau Grand Prix.
All-new FIA F4 World Cup first to be settled
The inaugural FIA F4 World Cup will be the first of the three FIA World Cups to be decided during Macau Grand Prix week with the 10-lap Main Race due to get under way at 09:15 local time on Sunday 16 November. Prior to that, two free practice sessions and a single qualifying session have been scheduled. The qualifying results decide the grid for the Qualification Race with the Main Race grid based on the results of the eight-lap Qualification Race.

Four FIA-sanctioned competitions will take place during the 72nd Macau Grand Prix week from 13-16 November with the FIA FR World Cup, FIA F4 World Cup and FIA GT World Cup streamed live and free of charge via the FIA’s official YouTube channel. The Kumho FIA TCR World Tour season finale also forms part of the Macau schedule.
