Ahead of the 72nd Macau Grand Prix taking place from 13-16 November as the host of the FIA FR World Cup, the FIA GT World Cup and FIA F4 World Cup, here’s a reminder of five drivers who triumphed on the Circuito da Guia before going on to achieve even more success in the future.

A title winner in the FIA World Endurance Championship and FIA Formula E, António Felíx da Costa beat the likes of Carlos Sainz Jr and Pascal Wehrlein to claim victory in Macau in 2012. The Portuguese driver’s rivals for his second win in 2016 included Lando Norris and George Russell.
2003-2005: Robert Kubica
Motorsport all-rounder Robert Kubica made three Macau appearances in the Macau Grand Prix, finished second in both 2004 and 20025 following his debut in 2003. A winner in Formula One and the FIA World Endurance Championship, Kubica also scored points in the FIA World Rally Championship.

2001: Takuma Sato (above)
The first Japanese driver to win the Macau Grand Prix, a feat he achieved in 2001, Takuma Sato started 90 Formula One races and claimed a podium in the 2004 US Grand Prix. His opposition during his triumphant Macau bid in 2021 included Heikki Kovalainen and Anthony Davidson.
2005: Lucas di Grassi
Lucas di Grassi, the 2016-17 FIA Formula E champion who also raced in Formula One, topped a Macau podium consisting of Robert Kubica and Sebastian Vettel.
2009 and 2010: Edoardo Mortara (below)
After finishing runner-up in the 2008 Macau Grand Prix, Mortara went on a two-year winning streak with back-to-back victories between 2009 and 2010. He followed those successes up by winning the Macau GT Cup three years consecutively between 2011 and 2013. His first FIA GT World Cup victory came in 2017.

The three FIA World Cup events will be streamed live and free of charge via the FIA’s official YouTube channel.
